Jhafis Quintero - Artist Talk

Really interesting artist talk with Jhafis Quintero. Watched some inspiring films

This was one of my favourite pieces...

"SPIDERS" From holes in the wall the hands of two different people slowly emerge like spiders and move until they meet, one of the hands writes the word "i exist" in the skin of the other hand. The need to recognize your own humanity and have it recognized by others is a vital issue. When a human being enters in prison, his body becomes intellectual property of the justice system, then this person must assume a second skin, one made of cement and metal. as long as it is his sentence. Some prisoners constanly harm themselves to assume the autonomy of their own bodies (i hurt what belong to me), others creat alternative ways to reappropiate their own bodies.
